Kato Sushi was founded on 2005 when 3 Hidalgo County men had made their collective vision of providing a comfortable place to eat and socialize by opening a sushi eatery.
Manuel Alonso, Andres Ramirez and Martin Talavera united over 5 years ago to open their first Kato Sushi with 9 employees in the cornerstone development in Edinburg. At the time Sushi establishments were abundant in McAllen, but not in Edinburg. But at the same time a big clientele from neighboring cities began visiting regularly until it was decided that another location was necessary to provide better service and get closer to loyal customers. After 5 years of business, Kato has grown to 4 locations Valley wide and planning to expand soon.
The name Kato is a popular last name and tea glass brand in Japan, where sushi was originated. The contemporary way of serving this oriental delicatessen has become a signature in the Katos taste that thousands of clients crave for.
After all these years, new and old patrons keep returning to sample appetizers and sushi pieces, Katos famous mixed rice and a huge selection of signature rolls that have been the favorite of customers of all ages, as South Texas is becoming a place of sushi connoisseurs.
Manuel, Andres and Martin, have more than 15 years experience in the food and beverage business, and are no strangers in sushi as all 3 of them began working as sushi chefs for different businesses, until one day it was time to do their own version of what the sushi experience is all about.
Preparing sushi, as Andres says, is like preparing tacos if you dont put the right amount of sauce, it wont have a good taste. That is why every recipe used by the Kato Sushi Chefs is carefully measured and prepared so that every bite is a literal explosion of subtle flavor. Also, different from other Sushi chains, you can always be certain that all three partners are always working personally inside the restaurants to ensure the quality they envisioned from the very first day they opened.
